Seekkuge Prasanna roped in by Khulna Titans for BPL 2017
Prasanna will also be in action at the Natwest T20 Blast in England where he will play for Nottinghamshire Steelbacks.
With the fifth edition of Bangladesh Premier League set to kick off in November this year, Sri Lankan Seekkuge Prasanna has been the newest addition to be roped into the Khulna Titans squad. Previously, Prasanna played for Dhaka Dynamites in 2016 who are the defending champions. He is remembered for his 18-ball half-century against Khulna in Chittagong last year.
This will be his third outing in the tournament, having been a part of Barisal Bulls side in 2015 BPL edition. He is the sixth foreign inclusion to Khulna Titans squad. With retaining Junaid Khan, the franchise bought Sarfraz Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Chris Lynn and Rilee Rossouw for this season.
The Titans confirmed the signing with a Facebook post stating, “A hard hitting lower order batsman & an useful leg-spinner, his ability to struck lusty blows in the death overs can be a game changer! Khulna Titans are pleased to announce that Seekkuge Prasanna will be joining the team for this year’s BPL 2017!”
In the 99 Twenty20 matches played, the 32-year-old has smashed 1057 runs in 82 innings at a massive strike rate of 163 including two fifties. With the ball in hand, he has taken 77 wickets in 92 innings at 6.83 runs per over. Prasanna represented Sri Lanka in one Test, 36 ODIs and 16 T20Is. He played just a single match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, against South Africa.
Stint in the Natwest T20 Blast
Before that, we will see Prasanna in action at the Natwest T20 Blast in England where he will play for Nottinghamshire Steelbacks. Though the 32-year-old, along with several key Lankan players like Dinesh Chandimal, Nuwan Kulasekara and Suranga Lakmal, has been dropped for the first two ODIs, he will be missing the first three games for the Steelbacks due to Sri Lanka’s five-match one-day series against Zimbabwe.
He will be covered by Tabraiz Shamsi in the County team.
