Seen many players including Sachin Tendulkar, but no one is like MS Dhoni: Ravi Shastri
Whether he makes a zero or a 100, or lift a World Cup or get knocked out in the first round, it never mattered to him, Shastri said of Dhoni.
Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri heaped praises on MS Dhoni’s temperament in international cricket over the years.. Shastri, who has worked closely with Dhoni in his first stint as the Indian team director in 2014, could not resist crediting the latter for his calmness and composure. Dhoni had an incredible record as captain of India as he did the triple of winning the T20 World Cup (2007), 50 over World Cup (2011) and the ICC Champions Trophy (2013).
The wicketkeeper-batter has been portrayed as one of the best finishers in the game because of his ability to handle pressure and he does stand out from the other cricketers in terms of his coolness in any situation. Not to forget, Dhoni had an average of above 50 in ODI cricket, having played 350 games and it was never easy for the bowlers to take his wicket.
I have never seen a guy like him: Ravi Shastri
Shastri mentioned that he has never come across a person like Dhoni in terms of not being bothered by the surroundings and sticking to his cool attitude. He even gave the example of Sachin Tendulkar, stating that even has got lost his cool at times but not MS Dhoni.
“MS Dhoni was unreal. I have never seen a guy like him in my life. Whether he makes a zero or a 100, or lift a World Cup or get knocked out in the first round, it never mattered to him. I promise you, I have seen a lot of players but none like Dhoni. I have seen even Sachin Tendulkar. Fantastic temperament but sometimes get angry but this guy never gets angry. He didn’t care,” Shastri told on Shoaib Akhtar’s YouTube Channel.
Shastri, on a humorous note, also mentioned that he still doesn’t have Dhoni’s contact number as the latter is not used to carrying phones with him. The 40-year-old will be back in action for the IPL 2022 as he was retained by the Chennai Super Kings for INR 12 Crores.
“Till today, I don’t have his phone number, I’ve not even asked for it. I know he does not carry a phone around with him,” the former Indian head coach added.
