Pakistan faced their second consecutive defeat at the hands of New Zealand. Due to rain in Nelson, the Kiwis were set a revised target of 151 from 25 overs. They managed to do it in style with Martin Guptill unleashing a fantastic session of pinch-hitting in the middle.

The visitors are now 2-0 down in a five-match series. Speaking to the media after the loss, Shadab Khan expressed his disappointment. The leg-spinner felt that Pakistan failed to grab the limited opportunities they got. He also mentioned that the Kiwis played well.

We committed a few mistakes in the middle

Earlier in the day, Pakistan who elected to bat first were reduced to 141/7. However, some splendid fifties by Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali rescued them as they managed to post a total of 246/9 on the board.

This was his second fifty in One-Day Internationals. The 19-year-old said that his intention was to stay until the end and get as many runs. Speaking about his knock, Shadab said, “I bat regularly in the nets, maybe that’s the reason I performed well today,”

The leg-spinner felt that Pakistan failed to grab their chances. The hosts were 47/2 having lost Colin Munro and Kane Williamson. That’s when Guptill and Ross Taylor stitched up a stupendous partnership. While lauding New Zealand’s performance, Shadab accepted that they spill some chances in the middle.

“We got a chance but we failed to avail it, as New Zealand played well. We also committed a few mistakes in the middle as well,” he stated.

With three matches to go, Pakistan will have to display great valour to stage a comeback in the series. On the other hand, New Zealand would be looking to seal the series in their favour. Both the teams are scheduled to play the third ODI in Dunedin on the 13th of January.
