Shadab Khan plucks the leather out of thin air to dismiss Alex Carey
After taking the catch, he stood up and smacked the ball on the ground.
Fielders are touted to be the support system for the bowlers. While cricket is a sport between bat and ball, the emphasis of fielding can’t be ruled out by any means. A brilliant display of fielding was on show at the Harare Sports Club in the final between Australia and Pakistan. Shadab Khan took an unrealistic catch to send back Alex Carey in the dying stages of the Yellow Army’s innings.
Faheem Ashraf churned out a juicy half-volley, a delivery which deserved to be carted away. He would’ve gone for the Yorker, but missed his mark by a fair distance. The ball ended up on and around the middle stump. Carey’s eye lit up, on detecting the delivery, he winded up to pick the bones out of it. He cleared his front leg, which ensured that he got full leverage of the arms.
Shadab’s stupendous effort
The line and length of the delivery was perfect for the batsman to take full toll. Carey was also deep in his crease that helped him to get under the ball. He wielded his willow with all his might. Unluckily, the ball didn’t find the middle of the bat, yet it sped away at the rate of knots.
The ball didn’t have much elevation and was only destined to finish beyond the boundary ropes. Shadab was patrolling the region at mid-off. He saw the bullet fired from Carey’s willow. The leg-spinner didn’t give up, rather went for the catch. He dived full length on to his right and halted the projectile of the ball.
He somehow managed to latch on to the leather and therefore pulled off the one-handed stunner. After taking the catch, he stood up and smacked the ball on the ground, venting his anger.
