The Women in Blue completed a successful 5-0 whitewash over West Indies Women- in the recently concluded five-match Twenty20 International series in the Caribbean. The series win in the T20Is succeeded the Indian Women team’s triumph in the One-day Internationals where they knocked over the hosts by 2-1 in what was a great come-from-behind heist for the 2017 World Cup runners-up. And, on expected terms, many of the performers have been rightfully rewarded as far as the upswing in the ICC rankings is concerned.

15-year-old opener Shafali Verma, who announced her arrival in the shortest format of the game by notching up scores of 73 (49) and 69 off 35 balls in the opening two T20Is and finished as the Player of the Series with 158 runs across five games, gained 57 slots to reach the 30th position, forging a great opening partnership with Smriti Mandhana.

Another duo of Indian batters who gained significantly as far as the rankings are concerned is Jemimah Rodrigues and tearaway middle-order batter Veda Krishnamurthy. Rodrigues scored 50 in the last T20I against the West Indies and along with Krishnamurthy, racked up a match-winning 117-run-stand to guide their team to a sixty-one run win over the hosts.

India move to the fourth spot in the T20 rankings

Apart from the Indian batswomen, it was their troika of spinners who once again proved to be the cornerstone of their 5-0 win. Off-spinner Anuja Patil moved up eight places to 21 while fast bowling spearhead Shikha Pandey has leapfrogged eleven places and is now at the 43rd position.

Talking about the Indian spinners, three of the top-five bowling ranking spots are occupied by their tweakers. While Radha Yadav has moved from fifth to second, Deepti Sharma, who claimed eight wickets in the just-concluded series retained her fourth-ranking spot while Poonam Yadav is at the fifth spot.

And, as far as the team rankings are concerned, the 2018 T20 World Cup semi-finalists, India, have gained eight ranking points to move to 260 points and are now at the fourth spot in the ICC T20I rankings for Women while the West Indies Women have moved down to the fifth spot after having lost ten ranking points.
