Shaun Tait, Pakistan‘s bowling coach, is utterly pleased with his team’s performance in the ongoing Test against Australia. Tait will be there with Pakistan for a year and is looking forward to working with the Pakistan pace unit. The former Australian pacer also said that Pakistan’s terrific fast bowler, Shaheen Afridi, is ‘teaching’ him a lot, too.

Other than Shaheen, Tait was also delighted by rookie pacer Naseem Shah’s bowling on the first day of the third Test. Meanwhile, the third Test of the Benaud-Qadir Trophy is underway at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. On a pitch where bowlers had to put in heavy feet, the hosts took five wickets on the first day, while Australia amassed 232 runs.

“As a bowling group, we picked up five wickets and kept the economy rate in control in good batting conditions, which is pretty good,” Tait said to Pakistan Cricket before the start of Day Two.

“Shaheen is a great bowler and asks a lot of questions. So far, I have enjoyed my time with him, and I actually learned a lot from him. He is very mature and skillful for his age. He showed that yesterday by getting both conventional and reverse swing. He got some crucial wickets at the end of the day, and hopefully, he gets more wickets in the morning session today,” he added.

Prior to the current all-format series against Australia, the former pacer was appointed as Pakistan’s bowling coach last month. Australia are in Pakistan for the first time since the 1998/99 season, and are now locked in a three-match Test series that is currently tied at 0-0. The Test series will be followed by three ODIs and a one-off T20I.

Meanwhile, during the two drawn Test matches, Pakistan fast bowlers took only eight wickets on batsman-friendly, slow surfaces. Australian pacers Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Cameron Green are just ahead of Pakistan with nine scalps.
