Shaheen Shah Afridi signs a 2-year deal with Dhaka for the BPL
DD hasn't officially confirmed signing Shaheen Shah Afridi yet.
The young sensation from Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi has signed a deal for playing the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with the Dhaka Dynamites team. The 17-year-old has been one of the most talked cricketers in the last couple of months times as the videos of his bowling were circulated on the internet which displays the fierce speed he is able to generate as the batsman was clearly beaten by pace.
Shaheen Shah is yet to make his professional cricket debut and has featured in only three matches for Pakistan Under-19 team but managed to impress the BPL franchise to sign a 2-year contract. The left-handed pacer picked up five wickets in the three games he played in the U19 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka last year. The youngster, who plays for the Federal Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) in Pakistan’s domestic cricket bagged 19 wickets in just four matches in the Pepsi PCB Cricket Stars Under-16s Tournament in 2016. He averaged 10.21 with a strike-rate of 23.47 in the tournament.
The signing strengthens the already strong crop of overseas players of the Dhaka Dynamites, who roped in the likes of Shane Watson, Kumar Sangakkara, Sunil Narine and also the Pakistan players Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Amir. Other overseas signings for Dhaka for the 2017 season are Evin Lewis, Rovman Powell, Nirsohan Dickwell, Asela Gunaratne and Ronsford Beaton. Bangladesh Shakib Al Hasan is the marquee player of the team.
The Dhaka team can consider themselves lucky as none of their overseas players has been drafted by any of the T20 Global League teams when the remaining BPL franchises could be seen missing the services of their key overseas stars due to the conflict of BPL dates with the inaugural T20 GL.
DD hasn’t officially confirmed signing Shaheen Shah Afridi yet but, the company that manages the Pakistan pacer confirmed that he has committed to play for the team with a 2-year deal.
