Shahid Afridi heaps praises on AB de Villiers
AB de Villiers' has been one of the greatest cricketers South Africa ever produced.
South African cricketer AB de Villiers recently announced his retirement from international cricket. He was a colossus figure of their cricket and was a stalwart in their lineup in all forms of cricket. He was also one of the very few cricketers who conjured roars from across the world. He made his debut against England at Port Elizabeth way back in December 2014.
The 34-year-old made his ODI debut a couple of months later versus the same opponents. He forayed into T20 cricket as well in 2006. He didn’t take much time in turning into an indispensable member of the national team. His career grew leaps and bounds as he kept piling on the runs. Moreover, he was a versatile batsman and catered to the needs of the team in the hour of need.
Tough times for AB de Villiers
The last couple of years were hectic for the Pretoria-born cricketer as undesired injuries didn’t allow him to don the national colours on a regular basis. He made a comeback in the Day-Night Test against Zimbabwe in Port Elizabeth last year and marked his comeback to the longest format of the sport after a gap of nearly a couple of years.
Thereafter, he played the Test series against India where he played a crucial role in their victorious campaign. Unfortunately, he couldn’t play the whole of the finger injury owing to a finger injury. He recovered in time and plied his trade in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The veteran represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and played some jaw-dropping knocks for the franchise.
He also took a marvellous catch at the mid-wicket boundary to get rid of Alex Hales. The catch was then hailed as a ‘superman-like’ effort. Following his retirement, the cricketing fraternity as well as the commoners mourned the decision and showered him with accolades. Shahid Afridi, the retired Pakistani cricketer who is recovering from a knee injury, also congratulated him for an auspicious life ahead.
