Shahid Afridi speaks in support of Fawad Alam
Afridi remarked that Fawad had been ignored despite performing consistently in domestic tournaments.
A lot of questions have been raised on the Pakistani selectors based on the absence of Fawad Alam in the Test squad against Sri Lanka. Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has joined the chorus of support for the middle order batsman and proclaimed that he deserves a shot.
Fawad Alam is someone who has performed quite consistently in first-class cricket. Whether it was about scoring centuries or taking wickets, Fawad has always made his presence felt in one way or the other. However, the selectors have continued to ignore him. Shahid Afridi was disappointed by his omission and spoke his perspective on the same.
Afridi on Fawad Alam’s exclusion
The stylish all-rounder failed to find the logic behind Fawad’s continued ignorance. “I don’t know why he is being ignored by the selectors,” said the former swashbuckling batsman. “I think selectors have plans for the team and I think surely they have a plan for Fawad also,” he said.
Afridi remarked that Fawad had been ignored despite all splendid performances in the domestic tournaments. “Fawad Alam has been ignored a lot. He has performed at a high level in domestic cricket which very few players have done so.”
Afridi spoke highly on Fawad’s fitness
He also went on to throw light on Fawad Alam being amongst the fittest Pakistani cricketers and that he deserved a spot in the squad on the back of his recent performances.
“Whereas Fawad’s fitness is concerned, I believe the 30-year-old will be at the top of the fitness level as well, so I think Fawad Alam should be given a chance, as his performance speaks for itself.”
He also added that Fawad had a good temperament which suited Test cricket and he could become a good Test batsman.
His first-class statistics boast of a staggering 10,172 runs, that too at a fantastic average of 56.51 which is a clear proof of his stature as a batsman.
