Shakib Al Hasan failed to report corruption-related approaches that were made to him by an Indian bookmaker.
The star all-rounder of Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan, is ready to make his come back into the Bangladesh team after his one-year anti-corruption rule violation punishment. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is waiting with their arms open to welcome their star player. He was handed a one-year ban along with a one-year of suspended sentence by the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit on 29th October in 2019.
Shakib failed to report corruption-related approaches that were made to him by a bookmaker. When the all-rounder interacted later with people, he confessed openly that it was his mistake that he failed to inform authorities. Bangladesh T20 captain Mahmudullah stated that the team is waiting with all its eagerness to welcome back Shakib Al Hasan in their dressing room. He stated in all his joy that ‘our boy is coming back home.’
“We know that Shakib has been the best player for so many years, for the Bangladesh cricket team. We are all eagerly waiting for his return to the dressing room. It feels good to know that we can see him, talk to him, and spend time with him. Shakib is a champion player. I think it won’t take him long to get back to the rhythm. I believe that he will get it back as soon as he enters the cricket field,” said Mahmudullah as quoted by ESPNcrininfo.
Our best player is coming back to the field, says BCB chief selector
The 33-year-old player is currently in the USA with his family and will land in Bangladesh in the first week of the next month. The BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin said that their star player would ease into the international formats through domestic outings.
“Our best player is coming back to the field. He now has to prepare himself for domestic tournaments since we don’t have any international series for the time being. We have to monitor his physical condition. Let him start in domestic cricket. We should give him time, but he is a very experienced player. He won’t take long to get back into rhythm,” he added.
