Shakib Al Hasan’s father tested positive for COVID-19

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s father Mashrur Reza Kutil has been tested positive for the ungodly COVID-19 virus. The revelations came to the fore after the reports came out earlier on Sunday. His father underwent the test after suffering from cold for quite a few days.

Shakib’s cousin Sohan confirmed the same and also said that his mother also went for a test, but the results are yet to come out. Shakib is currently staying in the United States of America (USA) along with his wife Umme Ahmed Shishir and their two daughters.

“He works in a bank. Around 6-7 people were already affected by the virus before him. We could to know he is affected to after the report came out. We got the report today. Shakib’s mother also went to undergo test. We will get the report tomorrow hopefully,” Sohan was quoted as saying to BDcrictime.

Shakib has been working whole-heartedly for the ones affected in the COVID-19 pandemic. The 33-year-old earlier donated his 2019 World Cup bat with which he scored a couple of centuries against England and the West Indies. Syed Rajib Imteaz, a Bangladesh-born citizen of the US, brought the prized memorabilia. In the mega event, the Jessore-born scored 606 runs.

He has been working with his foundation to lend his helping hand for the needy in the grave scenario. When the deadly virus started spreading all over the world, Shakib released a video on Facebook, asking people to follow the required guidelines in the pandemic. He also requested people to stay indoors. On April 24, he became a father to a second child.

Shakib’s career came to a halt in October 2019. After he came back from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the ICC handed him a backdated suspension due to which he couldn’t play Bangladesh’s series against India and Pakistan. He missed out playing the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as well.

A number of Bangladesh cricketers, including Mashrafe Mortaza, Nafees Iqbal and Nazmul Islam Apu were diagnosed with coronavirus. However, all of them have managed to recover. Mashrafe, the former Tigers’ captain, tested positive twice, but has come out trumps. In Bangladesh, there has been over 2,02,000 cases thus far with over 2,580 people losing their lives.
