Kuldeep Yadav made his Test debut against Australia last year in Dharamsala and played only one more Test in 2017. For the next one year, he weaved his magic with the leather in the limited-overs format. Recently, the Chinaman from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, tormented the English batsmen in the T20I and ODI series after which he was roped into the Test team as well.

After being benched for the opening match at Edgbaston in Birmingham, the left-armer got an opportunity at Lord’s- The Home of Cricket. However, Joe Root and Co smothered him without much fuss and Kuldeep was only entrusted for nine overs in which he conceded 44 runs. It rained heavily during the second match and hence, the conditions didn’t favour him.

He would have had a lot of success

Subsequently, he was left out from the third Test at Trent Bridge. To add to his agony, Kuldeep couldn’t stay put in his position in the 18-man squad for the last two matches at The Rose Bowl and Kennington Oval respectively. In the meantime, Shane Warne, the former Australian leg-break bowler, reckons that Kuldeep should’ve been persisted with and shouldn’t have been sent home.

“Kuldeep is very good. It’s a shame that he has been sent back to India. He should have played this Test and the next one at the Oval where it spins. With a bit of wrist spin and a bit of mystery, he would have had a lot of success,” Warne was quoted as saying in the Times of India (TOI).

The veteran of 145 Tests and 194 ODIs also talked about the manner in which off-break bowler Ravichandran Ashwin needs to work out his game-plan. The tweaker nipped out seven wickets in the first Test but hasn’t had much to cheer in the previous couple of encounters. Moreover, his hand and groin/hip injury didn’t help him bowl at his very best.

“As far as Ashwin is concerned, he should be a bit more patient. He has to understand five wickets won’t come every day and he has to find ways to do well in conditions that don’t suit him,” the 48-year-old added.
