Australian all-rounder Shane Watson had announced his retirement from franchise cricket at the end of Chennai Super Kings’ journey in the ongoing IPL 2020. Watson had already retired from international cricket in 2016 and now hanged his boots in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) and all forms of cricket. Owing to his poor form, Watson was in and out of CSK team in IPL 2020. He had played his last game for the Yellow Army against Kolkata Knight Riders on October 29.
The 39-year-old had officially announced the big news on his official Twitter handle. Watson tweeted, “This closing chapter is going to be so hard to top, but I am going to try. I truly am forever grateful to have lived this amazing dream. Now onto the next exciting one…#thankyou”.

The CSK all-rounder also revealed the news of his retirement by uploading an emotional video on his YouTube channel. In the clip, Watson reflected on his cricket journey in both the international circuit and domestic leagues. The veteran also thanked various people including his sister, parents, coaches, mentors and teammates who made him what he is today.
“The first people I want to thank is my mum and dad, who did everything they could to make me realize my dream. My mum and dad sacrificed so much,” he said in the video.
In the short clip, Watson also labelled himself as fortunate for having played the game of cricket till the age of 39 despite suffering from various injuries.
“To think that I am finishing up my playing days as a 39-years-old after all of the injury setbacks that I had along the way, I feel so ridiculously fortunate.” Shane concluded.
