Shaun Marsh unsure of his Test future after being dropped for the Sri Lanka series
The left-hander could only score runs at 26.14 against India in seven outings.
Shaun Marsh has been in good touch in the ongoing ODI series against India. He scored a brilliant hundred in the second game which was played at the Adelaide Oval. But the veteran of 38 Tests is still disappointed after being dropped from Australia Squad for the two-match series against Sri Lanka which is set to commence on January 24 in Brisbane.
Marsh did not have a very good outing with the bat in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He could manage only 183 runs from the 7 innings at a below-par average of 26.14 which in no way justifies the immense talent that he possesses. His poor form led to his axing from the Test squad which has also put a question mark over his future prospects as far as Test matches are considered.
“It’s a good question(whether he’ll make a comeback in the red-ball format of Australia), isn’t it,” Marsh told reporters on Wednesday. “I’m not too sure. My Test stuff over the last 12 months has been really disappointing. But I have just made a conscious effort to go out there in this (one-day) series to just free my mind.”
Focussing more on white-ball cricket
Shaun Marsh also had disappointing numbers when Australia played Pakistan and South Africa last year. He scored runs at a mediocre average of 3.5 and 18.37 respectively. Despite having poor numbers, the left-hander got another chance to prove himself when he was selected for the Tests against India. But he was unable to grasp that chance and returned with another disappointing series.
“I’m not too sure(that he can reclaim a spot in Australia’s Test batting line-up). I have just got to focus on playing some really good white ball cricket now and we will see what happens. Obviously, it was disappointing (to be dropped). But at the end of the day, I just didn’t score enough runs – you’re there to score runs and I didn’t,” Marsh told in a recent chat.
Marsh has tried to put his recent axing at the back of his mind. He is now focussing on the white ball format and a recent century against India has really boosted his confidence. He is happy with his performances in the 50-over format. “So I tried to put it at the back of my mind and move on and just really focus on the white ball (formats) and … it has been going well so I just need to try and continue that now.”
