Shoaib Akhtar congratulates India for their triumph Down Under
He also admitted that Australia is one of the toughest countries to tour.
India are currently the International Cricket Council’s ICC (ICC) number-one ranked Test team and hence they went into the four-match Test series against Australia as the favourites. They didn’t do their reputation any harm and won the series 2-1. Moreover, Virat Kohli became the first Asian captain to win a Test series Down Under. It was also India’s first overseas Test victory in Australia.
India got off to a superlative start as they won the opening Test at the popular Adelaide Oval by 31 runs. Cheteshwar Pujara scored a century followed by a half-century and the superlative knocks earned him the Player of the Match award. The Aussie tail-enders tried their hearts out, but the India pacers turned out to be a tough nut to crack and the hosts eventually crumbled to the pressure.

In the second match at the new Perth Stadium, Australia made a comeback and won the match by 146 runs to draw level in the four-match series. But Virat’s men didn’t drop the gun and came back with a thumping victory at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) where they won by 137 runs. Also, India took an unassailable 2-1 lead in the series and reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
In the fourth Test at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (MCG), rain eventually had it’s say and the encounter ended in a draw. After the triumph, Shoaib Akhtar, the former Pakistani fast bowler, congratulated the visiting team for the thumping show. Moreover, he also admitted that Australia is one of the toughest countries to tour for a cricket team.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Congratulations to Team India for a historic series victory Down Under. One of the toughest tours in world cricket is a Test Series in Australia. It was a great effort and they kept Aussies under pressure throughout. #DownUnder #INDvAUS,”
