Shoaib Akhtar faces legal lawsuit of Rs 100 million from PCB's legal advisor Taffazul Rizvi
Shoaib Akhtar recently in his Youtube video accused Tafazzul Rizvi of having personal agendas.
Shoaib Akhtar has found himself in trouble for making some comments on the Pakistan Cricket Board’s legal advisor Taffazul Rizvi. The advocate has sent a sent Rs 100 million notice to the former Pakistani pacer. The action taken by Rizvi is in the wake of the comments made by Akhtar on him while addressing the issue of Umar Akmal‘s ban.
The advocate has launched a defamation case against the ex-cricketer. He has also asked Akhtar to take back his comments and also apologising for the same. Shoaib Akhtar recently in his Youtube video accused Tafazzul Rizvi of having personal agendas.
Akhtar expressed that he felt extremely angered when Rizvi had dragged former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi to the court. He accused Rizvi of doing it to earn fame.
“The PCB’s legal department is rotten to the core. Tafazzul Rizvi, in particular, is one such individual. He has deep connections and has been with the board for 10-15 years,” said Akhtar. “The thing that angered me the most was when he dragged Shahid Afridi in courts. I believe that stars are born and must be respected, and these lawyers use our high-profile cases to earn fame,” he added.
Akhtar further used inappropriate words against Rizvi. He also said that there have been many cases which Rizvi has lost against players like him and Afridi.
“He is an idiot of the highest order and has lost cases against me, Afridi, doping case … everything. What he does is that he pits PCB against its players and profits off of their legal wrangles,” he added.
PCB disappointed with Shoaib Akhtar’s poor choice of words
Pakistan Cricket Board gave a statement on this after Akhtar’s comments. The board expressed their disappointment regarding their words used by the former pacer. PCB revealed that Rizvi has taken criminal proceedings against the former fast-bowler.
“The PCB is disappointed with Shoaib Akhtar’s poor choice of words while publically commenting about the PCB’s legal department and its legal advisor. The language used by Shoaib Akhtar was highly inappropriate and disrespectful, and cannot be condoned in any civilised society. The PCB’s legal advisor, Mr Taffazul Rizvi, in his own discretion, has initiated defamation and criminal proceedings against Shoaib Akhtar, while the PCB too reserves its rights,” stated PCB.
Furthermore, vice-chairman of Pakistan Bar Council, Abid Saqi also talked about the issue. He showed support for Rizvi and said that statement and accusation by Akhtar is completely false. He backed Rizvi saying that he was doing his duty for the board and was under the law while doing it.
“Shoaib Akhtar, while commenting on the ban imposed against another cricketer under anti-corruption code, has falsely raised accusations against Mr Rizvi, while he has been performing his professional duties as a duly appointed Advocate for the PCB,” he said.
“Shoaib Akhtar should refrain from attempting to stop any Advocate from performing his duties, and his actions are culpable under various laws of Pakistan,” he added.
