Shoaib Malik trolled for his tweet amid high tensions between India and Pakistan
Shoaib had tweeted in favour of Pakistan and faced the wrath.
The Pulwama attack on February 14 led to the Indian Air Force (IAF) air-striking on the terrorist camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Balakot. The strikes escalated the tensions between India and Pakistan to the highest level. Soon, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) also responded to the air-force as reportedly targetted the Indian Army’s military installations.
While the IAF air-strike led to even the cricketers lauding the step, even Pakistan players followed suit to laud their army men for their efforts. Shoaib Malik was one of those as he naturally and expectedly stood by his country during the tough times. There was possibility of the things escalating between the two countries with repeated engagement on the borders as well.
At the same time, Malik, whose wife is the Indian Tennis star Sania Mirza, tweeted, “Hamara #Pakistan Zindabad.” This led to the outrage in India as many have warned him not to enter in Hyderabad. He was also trolled hilariously for his tweet and few also threatened him to physically assault on coming to Hyderabad, Sania’s hometown.
Here’s his tweet:
India and Pakistan to play in World Cup?
Meanwhile, there is still no certainty over India playing against Pakistan in the upcoming World Cup in England starting from May 30. Soon after the attack in Pulwama, there were calls for the Men in Blue to boycott the neighbouring country. The BCCI even wrote a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) urging them to sever the ties with the nations harbouring terrorists on its land.
The Indian board has already made it clear that the final decision on the matter will be taken by the government and it is yet to be made.
However, if the relations between the current crop of cricketers from both the countries is concerned, there is nothing lost. They share amazing camarderie between themselves with Shoaib Malik himself expressing his delight after equalling Virat Kohli in the T20I format and termed him ‘neighbour’ in his tweet. Despite that, he was trolled by many for his controversial tweet earlier.
Here’s how he was trolled:
