Show cause notice issued to Mohammad Sami for spot fixing allegations in BPL 2017

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently issued a show cause notice to their veteran pace bowler Mohammad Sami. The notice has been issued to Sami following allegations of his involvement in suspicious activities in the ongoing edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Reportedly, Sami is one of the suspects to be involved in the spot fixing activities in the tournament.

As per the recent reports in The Express Tribune, one of the senior officials of the PCB has confirmed the news about the board sending the show cause notice to Mohammad Sami. The 36-year old pacer has been plying his trade for the Rajshahi Kings in the BPL this year. Ironically, Sami has been the most successful bowler for his team in the BPL this year.

He has accounted for 11 wickets in the 9 matches that he has played in the tournament thus far. Sami averages 21.36 with the ball and has a strike rate of 25.2 this season, which are remarkable numbers. Despite all this, there have been reports about Mohammad Sami having his involvement in the spot fixing case. Sami is now expected to return and report the PCB headquarters for the further investigations in the case.

Impact on Pakistan cricket and the PSL

Sami has not been a regular face in the national setup in the recent times. Hence, his absence might not be felt much by the national side. He last played for the Pakistan team in the ICC World T20 in 2016. Since then, he has only been playing T20 leagues around the world.

However, if something goes wrong against him, then his PSL franchise, Islamabad United, could be severely hit. The United camp are hoping a lot from Sami this season. And it will only be shameful to see another player from their side, after Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif, to be caught in the spot fixing scandal.
