Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur sweep through the MCA awards night
The Mumbai Cricket Association announced awards for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 season yesterday at the Sharad Pawar Indoor Academy in Bandra-Kurla Complex. Star batsman Shreyas Iyer and leader of the Mumbai bowling attack Shardul Thakur won majority of the awards. MCA chief Sharad Pawar presided over the awards ceremony that had current and former Mumbai players in attendance.
Iyer who was the leading run scorer in both seasons with 809 and 1321 runs in respective seasons of the Ranji Trophy won the S V Rajadyaksha trophy. Thakur who is a part of the Indian Test team on the tour of West Indies picked the Shavak Paghdiwalla trophy for being the leading wicket taker with 48 and 41 wickets respectively.
The right-handed batsman also scored the fastest century in Ranji trophy in the two seasons and won a special award for the feat. Iyer scored 100 from 117 balls against Bengal in the 2014-15 season and bettered it with an 81-ball 100 against Uttar Pradesh in the 2015-16 season. He was also announced the cricketer of the year and was awarded with the Dattu Phadkar award for 2014-15 and shared it for the 2015-16 season with the medium pacer, Thakur.
Iyer and Thakur also swept The Justice Tendulkar Trophy for the best senior cricketer of the year; the latter for the 2014-15 season and the former for his performance in 2015-16.

Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy openers Akhil Herwadkar and Jay Bista won special honours for their outstanding performance in the Under-23 level for 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons respectively.
MCA awarded the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team the best team award for 2015-16 for winning the championship for the 41st time.
