Preview:
The hosts Singapore will be in action on Saturday when they face Nepal in the 2nd game of the T20I Tri-series at the Indian Association Ground. Singapore were part of the League A tournament of the Men’s CWC Challenge in Malaysia till Thursday. They finished 2nd among the six teams as they won four consecutive matches. In the last match, they handed the first defeat of the tournament to Canada.
Earlier in July, Singapore sealed their place in the Men’s T20 CWC Qualifiers which will be played later this month. Interestingly, it was Nepal whom Singapore defeated here at the Indian Association Ground to top the Asia-Region Qualifier two months ago. In the tournament opener, Nepal suffered a 5-wicket defeat against Zimbabwe who were 37/4 at a stage while chasing a target of 133.
Weather Condition/Report:
The weather forecast for Saturday at the Indian Association ground looks much better than what it was on Friday. With no pour down during the tournament opener, we might not see any rain on Saturday either.
Pitch Condition/Report:
The pitch at the Indian Association Ground looked absolutely fine. There was a bit of grip for the spinners but the batting looked easier than the scores suggested. Singapore’s formidable top-order could allow them to score big runs if they bat first on Saturday. Teams will prefer chasing given the dew factor.
Average first innings score: 151 (unaffected T20I matches)
Record of chasing teams: Won – 5, Lost – 4

Power Picks:
Timothy David finished the CWC Challenge as the leading run-getter. He amassed 369 runs from five matches at an average of 92.25 with four half-centuries. No other player in the tournament scored more than 250 runs. He also scored a 77 during the Asia-Region Qualifiers match against Nepal. Rohan Rangarajan has an interesting record for Singapore. He has bagged four ducks in eight games and crossed 30 in the remaining four.
He has the ability to score big runs opening the innings and chipping in with wickets. Dipendra Singh Airee was Nepal’s best batsman in the first game. Nepal would need Sompal Kami to contribute with the ball as well alongside some quick runs down the order. Abinash Bohara might get overs upfront as he took a 4-fer last time when they faced Singapore.

Expert Advice:
The focus will be around Sandeep Lamichhane once again. The leg-spinner’s numbers during the Asia Qualifiers for T20 CWC were quite poor. In the game against Singapore, he ended up conceding 34 runs in only three overs. However, he has taken 11 wickets in last six T20s and took a 3-fer against Zimbabwe who never faced him in this format before.
Probable Winners:
Singapore is expected to start with a win in their first game.
