SL v IND: Dinesh Chandimal ruled out of series with fractured thumb
Chandimal was looking set at 14 when a delivery from Hardik Pandya came in with an awkward bounce to hit his thumb.
Sri Lankan ace batsman Dinesh Chandimal has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing ODI series against India. He will not be a part of the Sri Lankan squad for the remaining two ODI fixtures. He is unlikely to be available for the upcoming one off T20I match against the Indian side as well. Chandimal injured his thumb during the third ODI of the series. The action perspired in the Sri Lankan innings.
Chandimal was looking set at 14 when a delivery from Hardik Pandya came in with an awkward bounce to hit his thumb. Dinesh Chandimal was seen in intense pain soon after the ball made an impact with his thumb. The team physio was quick to run on to the field and give the needed medical attention to him. The senior batsman continued to bat in the match but was not very comfortable at the crease.
His resistance eventually ended when he was dismissed by Hardik Pandya on 36. His knock of 36 came off 71 balls, which clearly indicated the uneasiness he was going through whilst at the crease. The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) released a statement stating that Chandimal will not be a part of the remainder of the series due to a hairline fracture in his thumb.
“SLC confirms that Test captain Dinesh Chandimal will be out of action for the rest of the series after sustaining a hairline fracture to his right thumb. We will have a better idea of timeline of his recovery after consulting a specialist in Colombo tomorrow,” a media release from Sri Lanka Cricket stated.
Troubled times
The problems for the Sri Lankan team does not seem to end. They have been going through a horror patch wherein they have lost a string of matches in the recent past. On the personal front, Chandimal too has been having a very ordinary time with the bat. Currently, in the series against India, they are languishing 0-2 down.
