'Aisa lag raha tha har ball par century ho rahi hai' - Sarfaraz Ahmed's old video on Sourav Ganguly goes viral as latter celebrates 51st birthday
Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly turned 51 on July 8, 2023.
Sourav Ganguly, widely regarded as one of the most successful captains in Indian cricket history, turned 51 on Saturday, July 8. He was known as the 'God of offside' for his exceptional skillset. He is currently acting as the Director of Cricket of the Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals.
On the occasion of his 51st birthday, a small video clip featuring former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed discussing Ganguly's stardom in Kolkata went viral. In the video, Ahmed describes an incident during a Test match between India and Pakistan at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 2007.
The 36-year-old recalled the Test match between the arch-rivals, stating Ganguly's game was in Kolkata, his hometown, where he is affectionately called "Dada." The Pakistan cricketer opened up about the atmosphere inside the stadium, where the crowd cheered Ganguly's every run as a hundred. Notably, Anil Kumble-led team India put up 616/5 on the board in the first innings, with Ganguly scoring 103, his first Test century at the Eden Gardens.
"Calcutta me match tha. Toh jo Sourav Ganguly has wo Calcutta k hi hai, unko dada kehte hai waha pe. To unhone waha par apni Test ki pehli century ki thi. Matlab centuriya unhone ki hui thi par Calcutta me nahi ki thi unhone. Toh aisa lag raha tha ki har run par century ho rahi hain unki. Toh public ka itna craze hai waha pe," Sarfaraz was head saying in the video.
