Virat Kohli has been a popular figure around the world and he has set himself huge standards for over a long period of time. The 33-year-old had been seen as the epitome of consistency until he lost his golden form in the last three years in international cricket. Despite that, India knows the value of a player like Kohli and have given a long rope which eventually paid off.

He was the top scorer in the game against Pakistan and scored an unbeaten fifty in the second game against Hong Kong to announce his comeback in style. More than the number of runs, Kohli looked a lot more of himself from the past where he would sneak in singles of good deliveries and make sure the bad ones are put off. No wonder, he has been an inspiration for many who have taken up cricket.

And after the game on Wednesday (August 31), the Hong Kong nation came up with a humbing gesture for Kohli. He posted a photo of a signed jersey in a story on Instagram which he received from Hong Kong cricket and the gesture from the associate nation left Kohli humbled. It was Hong Kong wicketkeeper Scott Mckechnie’s jersey with the number 40 on the back of it.

Here’s Virat Kohli’s story on Instagram

“Thank you @hk cricket this gesture is very humbling and very very sweet,” Kohli captioned on his story.

The words in jersey read about paying gratitude to Kohli for inspiring a generation of cricketers and wanted him to do so in the coming years. The Hong Kong cricket was ready to support him during the tough times he had face.

“Virat, thank you for inspiring a generation. We stand with you! There are many incredible days ahead. With Strength. With Hong Kong. Team Hong Kong”, the caption on the signed jersey.

India defeat Hong Kong by 40 runs to seal a berth in Super 4

Kohli’s unbeaten 59 off 44 balls included three sixes and a four and helped India post a big total alongside Suryakumar Yadav’s blistering knock. The men in blue qualified for the super four stages after winning the game by 40 runs on Wednesday (Aug 31).
