Asia Cup 2023: India-Sri Lanka fans engage in ugly fight after Super 4 encounter between two teams
India beat Sri Lanka by 41 runs and qualified for the final.
The India vs Sri Lanka Super 4 game in Asia Cup 2023 turned out to be an entertaining affair for fans at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Tuesday, September 12. After opting to bat first, India were bundled out for 213 in 49.1 overs as Dunith Wellalage spun a web around them with his magnificent spell of 5/40 in ten overs. In the second innings, the 20-year-old shone with the bat scoring 42* off 46, however, he couldn’t take his team home as Sri Lanka lost the match by 41 runs.
Following the end of the match, a video of fans fighting in the stadium has gone viral all over social media. In the viral video, a fan wearing a Sri Lankan jersey is seen running towards a person and throwing punches at him. Further ahead in the video, a group of individuals is seen giving a stern warning to two other people and telling them to leave the ground.

Coming back to the match, India won the toss and elected to bat first as captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got their team off to a great start. The duo added 80 runs for the first wicket from 67 balls. After a good start, Wellalage brought Sri Lanka back in the game as he dismissed Gill (19 off 25), Rohit Sharma (53 off 48), and Virat Kohli (3 off 12) to leave India on 90/3.
Dunith Wellalage gets Player of the Match for his all round show
The left-arm spinner picked up the first five-wicket haul of his career as he brought Indian batting down to their knees with his spell of 5/40 in ten overs. Further ahead in the game, he also finished as the top scorer for his side scoring an unbeaten 42* off 46 balls with the help of three fours and a six.
The southpaw got involved in a crucial stand 63 with Dhananjaya de Silva (41 off 66) for the seventh wicket. However, after losing his partner, he failed to get support from any other batter as Sri Lanka got all out for 172. Despite ending on the losing side, Wellalage was awarded Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
