India versus Pakistan is the most-revered rivalry in cricket. The two Asian nations have a lot of political history and their love for the game of cricket is also unparalleled. Whenever India and Pakistan lock horns on a cricket field, the excitement among the fans is a sight to behold. Tickets for the matches get sold within minutes.

However, interestingly, empty stands have greeted the two sides in their Super Four clash in Asia Cup 2023 in Colombo on Sunday, September 10.

Few Pictures of empty stands from India vs Pakistan

The R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo has a capacity of 35,000. However, only about 10,000 fans are present in the stands to witness the crucial encounter. It seems that the cost of tickets was one of the main reasons behind the low turnout. Prior to the tournament, tickets were being sold at 2000 LKR. Even in the first few days after the tournament began, the price of the tickets remained stagnant. However, now, the same tickets are being sold at 10,000 LKR. Blocks C and D, which usually have the cheapest tickets, are also being charged at substantially higher rates.

The tournament hosts, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is in charge of ticket sales. They might have failed to gauge the appropriate prices the fans would be willing to pay for the tickets in Sri Lanka. Also, they might have expected fans to make the trip from Pakistan and India to watch this encounter. Another thing that could have played a factor in the low sale of tickets is the fact that heavy rain was predicted for Sunday and chances of play were negligible.
