‘Babar Azam will become Pakistan's Prime Minister in 2048’ - Sunil Gavaskar hilarious remark ahead of T20 World Cup 2022 final
Pakistan play England in the finals of the World Cup on Sunday.
Pakistan are set to cross swords with a formidable England side in the summit clash of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The Men in Green crushed New Zealand in the semi-final fixture of the marquee event at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on November 9.
Pakistan Skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan’s immaculate innings guided the side to an impressive win over the Kiwis in their run chase. Later on, the middle-order batters made short work of the target and booked their ticket for the final of the showpiece event, scheduled to be held at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on November 13.
Pakistan are on the cusp of replicating their historic win back in 1992 when the then skipper Imran Khan won the World Cup from the jaws of defeat. Meanwhile, ahead of Pakistan and England finale clash, Sunil Gavaskar made a hilarious remark on skipper Babar Azam, stating that he would end up becoming the Pakistan Prime Minister if he wins the World Cup for Pakistan.
"If Pakistan do win the World Cup, in 2048 Babar Azam will be the Prime Minister of Pakistan," Gavaskar said in an interview with Star Sports.
The comments made by the India legend were in relation to Imran Khan, who won the World Cup in 1992 and made a career in politics later on and eventually became the Prime Minister of his country. Gavaskar jokingly suggested that if Babar could replicate Imran's World Cup-winning feat, then he might as well end up becoming the PM in the future.
Later that day, England thoroughly thrashed team India to sealed their spot in the finals. Both Pakistan and England will fire all cylinders and look to clinch their second T20 World Cup trophy come November 13.
