Tanzim Hasan Sakib, the rising star of Bangladesh's cricket, made a remarkable debut during the Asia Cup 2023 against India, earning accolades for his impressive performance. His ability to secure crucial wickets, including those of renowned players Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma, showcased his immense talent and potential on the international stage.

However, Sakib's recent fame has taken a troubling turn as his past Facebook posts, filled with derogatory remarks towards women, have resurfaced, sparking widespread outrage on social media. In one particularly controversial post, Sakib wrote, "If the wife works, the husband’s rights are not ensured. If the wife works, the child’s rights are not ensured. If the wife works, her elegance is damaged. If the wife works, the family is ruined. If the wife works, the veil is ruined. If the wife works, society is ruined."

Here's the post in question:

Bangladesh's poor performance in Asia Cup 2023

The Shakib Al Hasan-led side went into the Asia Cup 2023 with a new vigour but could not rise to the intense competition in the continental tournament.

In the group stage, they could only win against Afghanistan, failing to snatch victory against Sri Lanka. After winning one match they reached the Asia Cup Super 4 but their weakness were laid bare against teams like Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

A 21 loss against Sri Lanka and a 7 wicket loss against Pakistan rendered the Bangla Tigers out of the Asia Cup 2023. Although Bangladesh won a match against India in the Super 4, it was too late and too little for their Asia Cup final chances.

Against India, Bangladesh performed amicably and came up with a memorable 6-run win. India however were coming off an Asia Cup Final qualification and went into the match with numerous changes which could explain their loss.
