Bangladesh's veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim has sent shockwaves to the cricketing fraternity with his retirement from the One-Day Internationals (ODIs). Rahim took to social media platform Facebook to announce the decision with public. He will continue playing Tests and T20 Internationals for the Bangla Tigers.

"I am announcing my retirement from the ODI format as of today," Rahim wrote in his Facebook post on Wednesday, March 05.

"The last few weeks have been very challenging for me, and I have come to realize that this is my destiny. ," he added.

"Lastly, I would like to deeply thank my family, friends and my fans for whom I have played cricket for the last 19 years," he further wrote.

He made his debut in the format against Zimbabwe in 2006, and went on to become one of the most accomplished cricketers for the country. The 36-year-old hangs his boots in the format after being the third-highest run-getter for Bangladesh in the format, only behind Tamim Iqbal, who holds a solid 8357 runs to his tally.

Rahim played a staggering 274 matches for Bangladesh in the format, scoring 7795 runs including nine hundreds and 49 half-centuries. He is currently the most capped player for the Bangla Tigers in the format, followed by Shakib Al Hasan (247) and Tamim (243). The wicketkeeper also affected 299 dismissals in One-Dayers with 243 catches and 56 stumpings, making him one of the finest not just for Bangladesh, but worldwide.

His last outing in ODI kits for Bangladesh came against the New Zealanders when the two sides faced off in the league stage clash of the Champions Trophy 2025. For the unversed, Bangladesh had a disappointing campaign, where they failed to win a single game, and thus, Rahim took a decision that it might just be his time in ODIs.
