‘We have come a long way, putting an end to all the masala’ - BCCI tease candid chat between Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir
"You had more altercations than me", Gambhir told Kohli in the video.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday, September 18 posted a teaser of a candid conversation between star batter Virat Kohli and head coach Gautam Gambhir. The duo saw the high of highs when they lifted the ODI World Cup in 2011 and when Gambhir handed his Player of the Match trophy to a young Kohli but when it comes to rivalry, they have turned some heads in the IPL.
In 2013, it was the first time when Kohli and Gambhir were spotted having an intense verbal war in the IPL. A decade later, they had a massive fallout during a game between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2023 and for which, they were fined by the IPL committee. However, earlier in the year, the duo hugged it down during the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and RCB in Chinnaswamy Stadium which calmed the tension between the two.
Ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, the BCCI media team brought the duo together for a candid chat, in which, Kohli opened the segment talking about putting an end to all the ‘Masala’ that the media and the fans have created in the last few years.
“So here we are. We have come a long way and putting an end to all the masala,” Kohli said while laughing as Gambhir added, ‘That’s a good start to the conversation’. Both cricketers laughed it off as BCCI dropped the teaser. The full clip is expected to be out shortly.
Meanwhile, the teaser also contained both cricketers watching the highlight of the 2011 ODI World Cup final. Kohli spoke about his mindset when he’s in the right zone while Gambhir also opened up about his famous knock in Napier where he batted for two and a half days straight. Apart from that, they also teased a banter between the two greats as Gambhir told Kohli that he had more altercations with the opponent than the prior had.
Interestingly, the moment when the BCCI shared the teaser Kohli also posted a one-word tweet which read, "Kindness".
