'Captainship comes with loyalty' - Shubman Gill's message for Gujarat Titans' fans goes viral
Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new captain of Gujarat Titans after Hardik Pandya's transfer to Mumbai Indians.
The cricketing fraternity has been buzzing with the news of Hardik Pandya’s recent transfer from Gujarat Titans (GT) back to Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Mumbai snapped the all-rounder through an all-cash deal with Gujarat worth INR 15 Crore. Following the player trade, GT announced Shubman Gill as their new captain for the next season.
The IPL 2023 winners shared a video message of their new skipper for their fans where Gill calls it a dream come true moment for him to lead an IPL side. He further goes on to say that captaincy brings with it a lot of responsibilities with commitment, discipline, hard work and loyalty being its four pillars.

“Till the time we don’t play our first match, it’s not going to quite sink in. It’s a great feeling. We all know captainship comes with a lot of things, and commitment is one of them, discipline is one of them, hard work is one of them and loyalty is one of them,” said Gill in a video uploaded by Gujarat Titans on their social media handles.
Gill further spoke about the support he’s going to get from other leaders in their side such as Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami and others.
“We have great leaders in our team, be it Kane or be it Rashid Bhai, or be it Shami bhai or even David and Wriddhi Bhai so it’s going to be great,” he added.
Shubman Gill has big shoes to fill in place of Hardik Pandya
Gill will have huge shoes to fill in place of Hardik Pandya as the all-rounder led Gujarat to their maiden IPL title in their debut season in 2022. He also starred with the bat for his franchise scoring 487 runs from 15 matches (highest for his team).

However, the 24-year-old Gill has also proven himself with the bat as he scored the second-highest runs in a single season in IPL history in the 2023 edition. The Punjab-born cricketer scored 890 runs from 17 innings at an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80 with three hundreds and four fifties to his name.
In the upcoming season, Gill has the herculean task of emulating Pandya’s excellent leadership on the field as Gujarat prepare themselves for their second title in their third season.
