'Consistently failing since 2016' - Twitter gets furious as Rohit Sharma goes without fifty in 22 IPL innings
Rohit scored just one run against RCB off 10 balls.
In the ongoing Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers faced each other at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Being forced to bat first, Mumbai openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan were not able to settle at all, as RCB bowlers completely dominated the opposition. In the third over of the innings, Mohammed Siraj bowled a bouncer to get better off Kishan, with the batter being caught by Harshal Patel while trying to play a hook.
Rohit was still uncomfortable at the crease and had already got a relief, as the wicketkeeper-pacer duo of Dinesh Karthik and Siraj got involved in a collision to drop a ball edged in the air off his blade. However, things did not last long for the Nagpur-born batter, as he was dismissed just three deliveries later off Akash Deep's bowling, trying to drive the ball outside the off stump, away from the body. Rohit only managed to edge the ball behind the stumps, as Karthik did the rest to grab him this time around.
Ever since the fall of a couple of early wickets, Mumbai's batting line-up kept tumbling, and managed to score just 20 runs for the loss of three wickets. Youngster Tilak Varma tried to stabilize the innings with debutant Nehal Wadhera, as they notched up a crucial partnership of 50 runs. Tilak Varma collected 84 runs under his belt and put the visiting side in a much better position. Courtesy of his brilliant knock, the Mumbai-based franchise posted 171 runs on the board.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma failed to put a double-digit mark at an underwhelming strike rate of 10, fans took to their social media handles to express their rage towards the team skipper, who has now failed to score fifty-plus in 22 consecutive IPL innings. His last fifty came in the 2021 edition of the league. Considering his poor run of form in the league, many fans advised him to retire from cricket and strongly commented on his fitness.
