CPL 2023: Roshon Primus muscles Mohammad Amir for 96-meter hit

Jamaica Tallawahs defeated St Lucia Kings by 11 runs in the season opener.

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 began in wonderful fashion as Jamaica Tallawahs took on St Lucia Kings in the season opener of the tournament at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, August 16.

With Tallawahs getting off to a positive start to the tournament, the highlight of the game was the monstrous six that West Indies’ all-rounder Roshon Primus hit against Mohammad Amir during the run chase.

Primus hit Amir for a six on the first ball of the 17th over, as Kings aimed to chase down 188. The side found themselves on a total of 125 runs in the start of the 17th over, and Primus’ monstrous 96-metre shot had the opposing fans awestruck. The clip of the shot has been doing the rounds all across social media.

Tallawah won by 11 runs

Speaking of the CPL 2023 season opener, Jamaica Tallawahs came in to bat first after losing the toss. The side got off to a brilliant start as skipper Brandon King played a marvellous knock of 81 off 53 to give his side to a perfect start. After his brilliant knock, a joint effort by the remaining batters helped Tallawahs to a total of 187 runs in the first innings.

For Lucia Kings, Roston Chase was their highest wicket-taker, with three wickets to his name. During the run chase, Chase impressed with a knock of 53 off 3. Furthermore, Primus scored 37 off 20. However, they were unable to chase the target down as they fell short by 11 runs.
