Pakistan and Australia are currently in the midst of the third test at the SCG. Australian opener David Warner, in the final Test of his career, touched the late Phil Hughes' plaque before entering to bat. The moment went viral on social media.

It's worth mentioning that Hughes died at the age of 25 after being struck on the neck by a cricket ball in a Sheffield Shield game at the SCG in November 2014. The talented batter passed away two days later, and his death was deeply felt by many members of the Australian team, including Warner, who was at the SCG when Hughes was struck. Meanwhile, right after giving tribute to Hughes, Warner received a guard of honour from the Pakistan team while walking to the centre.

Warner is set to retire from Test cricket after the third Test against Pakistan at his home ground in Sydney, boasting 26 centuries across 112 matches.

However, speaking ahead of his farewell match, Warner reflected on the legacy left by Hughes and said that still today it hits them hard.

“For us, being here when he fell that day, was quite sad and terrible. Still today, it hits us hard. I’ve always seen him at the other end. All the boys know he’s looking down upon us," Warner said as quoted by Fox Sports.

Coming to the match, Pakistan scored 313 in their first innings, courtesy of half-centuries from Mohammad Rizwan, Agha Salman, and Aamer Jamal. Rizwan and Salman scored 88 and 53, respectively, while Jamal scored a quick 82 off just 97 to help Pakistan reach a good total of 313 in the first inning of the match. Jamal batted beautifully and showcased his character while playing mostly with tail-enders, scoring his half-century and bolstering the team's total.

In pursuit, Australia had to come to bat and played just one over to see off a tricky phase before the close of play. They are at six for no loss, with Warner and Usman Khawaja at the crease, set to continue their innings tomorrow.
