‘Dhanyavaad’ - Ellyse Perry expresses gratitude towards Royal Challengers Bangalore following inaugural WPL
Ellyse Perry shared a picture of the team celebrating holi as she expressed her gratitude to the Bengaluru-based franchise.
The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 finally came to an end as Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians clinched the coveted title after defeating Delhi Capitals in the summit clash of the tournament.
However, despite the tournament being a massive success for Mumbai Indians, the same was not the case for Royal Challengers Bangalore women. RCB had a terrible inaugural season despite putting together a formidable side. The side was quite active in the WPL 2023 auctions as they roped in many big names like Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, Sophie Devine, Richa Ghosh, among others.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, star batter Ellyse Perry took to Instagram to share a picture of RCB's celebrations on the day of Holi. She shared the post to express her gratitude towards the franchise, thanking them for the opportunity to participate in the inaugural edition of the tournament.
"So many experiences and memories jammed in to a such a short period of time! Thanks @royalchallengersbangalore for the chance to be apart of it all. Dhanyavaad," Perry said in the post’s caption.
RCB had a season to forget in the inaugural WPL
Royal Challengers Bangalore women had a horrible season in the WPL 2023 despite having one of the strongest squads on paper, as was opined by many at the start of the tournament. However, it soon became clear that the star-studded line-up was struggling to comprehend the conditions and integrate themselves into putting out good performances.
They played their first match of the competition against Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals where their forgettable run started. They lost their first match of the tournament and did not register a win in any of their next four matches either.
Their poor form saw them end the campaign in fourth place in the WPL standings with four points from eight matches as they also missed out on the playoff qualifications. The Smriti Mandhana-led side will be looking to better their performance in the next edition of the WPL as it would be interesting to see how they fare in the future.
