Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have witnessed multiple heartbreaks in the past decade. India have come close to winning an ICC championship multiple times but failed to cross the line, including defeat in the 2014 T20 World Cup final, the 2017 Champions Trophy final and the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Both cricketers were desperate to bag an ICC trophy before they hung up their boots and were very elated when they finally managed to get the job done in the T20 World Cup 2024.

After defeating South Africa on the night of the final at Kensington Oval in Barbados, all the Indian cricketers were emotional, especially Rohit, who was seen crying while lying on the ground. Kohli too was spotted in tears but both were equally happy as their dreams came true. In a viral video, the two stalwarts of Indian cricket were seen hugging each other with bright smiles and Rohit was also spotted giving a pat to Kohli.

Both Rohit and Kohi have faced tremendous hardships on the internet. The fans of Kohli and Rohit accused the other cricketer of India’s poor performances and it continued for almost a decade. There were plenty of reports claiming a rift between both players at one point but Kohli and Rohit always supported each other in the press and mentioned sharing a healthy bond.

The World Cup win meant a lot for their legacy as well. Kohli, who despite being the leading run-scorer in T20 World Cup history, has never won gold. On the other hand, Rohit lost the semi-final against England in 2022 and two finals in 2023, which made him hungry to prove his value as captain. He led from the front in the competition and finished as India’s leading run-scorer. Notably, the Men in Blue defeated South Africa by seven runs on the night of the final to secure the coveted trophy.
