England Women cricketers and partners Nat Sciver and Katherine Brunt to be known by married names
In the month of May of last year, Nat Sciver and Katherine Brunt exchanged vows.
Two of the best players of all time in England women’s cricket history, Nat Sciver and Katherine Brunt, from now on will be recognised by their official married names on the cricket field. The duo will now be known as Natalie Sciver-Brunt and Katherine Sciver-Brunt. The names will now be official on the scorecards and their respective team jerseys.
An image of the two cricketers donning the new names on their English jerseys have been posted on social media. Take a look.
The cricketing duo had tied the knot in May, last year, after having got engaged in October 2019. Meanwhile, Natalie and Katherine also became another notable cricket couple in women’s cricket history, apart from South Africa’s Dane van Niekerk-Marizanne Kapp and New Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu, to being engaged in same-sex marriage.
The couple had reportedly planned to tie the knot in September 2020. However, the occasion had to be postponed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Katherine and Natalie will next be seen in action during the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to take place in South Africa from February 10 to February 26. The England squad will be led by Heather Knight and the squad announcement was finalized on January 6 this year.
The inaugural WT20 champions are placed in Group B alongside India, Ireland, Pakistan and the West Indies and would be expected to make the seemingly strong contendors for the semifinals. Brunt and Sciver were a part of the England side that finished as the runners-up in the last year’s Women’s ODI World Cup after losing to Meg Lanning’s Australia.
The English team had made the semifinals of the previous edition of the T20 World Cup down under in 2020, where they were eliminated without a ball being bowled against India, since the Women in Blue enjoyed a superior net run rate in the group stages.
England were one of the favorites in the last year’s Birmingham Commonwealth Games enjoying a massive home advantage. In fact, they made the semifinals before going down to the eventual silver medalists India. Nonetheless, the hosts beat New Zealand in the losers’ final to bag the bronze medals.
