Producer Guneet Monga, who recently won an Oscar for her documentary, The Elephant Whisperers, made an interesting statement on 2011 World Cup-winning cricketer, Yuvraj Singh. Biopics on cricketers have been a success mantra for the film industry lately, and films such as 'MS Dhoni - The Untold Story' and '83' based on former India skippers MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev, have done mighty well at the Box-Office and garnered massive affection from fans.
There have also been films on the lives of skipper Mohammad Azharuddin, titled ‘Azhar’, biopic on Indian Women's team skipper Mithali Raj, titled ‘Shabaash Mithu’, and an upcoming film of Jhulan Goswami, portrayed by Anushka Sharma, titled ‘Chakda 'Xpress’. As the trend continues to have films based on the lives of the cricketers, Guneet Monga, an Oscar-winning producer, opined on having a film on former cricketer Yuvraj Singh.
"I would love to meet Sachin Tendulkar but I think a film of Yuvraj Singh is pending to happen,” Guneet shared in a video posted by IPL’s social media handle.
You see his experience there is no holds barred: Guneet Monga
Notably, the former cricketer was instrumental in team India’s World Cup-winning campaign in 2011 and also was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning squad. Yuvraj notched up 362 runs in eight innings of nine matches, lacing it with four half-centuries and one ton and also picked up 15 wickets in his brilliant campaign in 2011.
However, the former star all-rounder endured arguably his roughest patch in his personal life after he was diagnosed with cancer after the World Cup. Despite this, Yuvraj overcame all odds and has led by example both in his personal and professional career. In the video, Guneet also named Yuvraj for having a certain ‘rawness’ which resembled the characteristics of an elephant, citing her film ‘The Elephant Whisperers’.
"Yuvraj Singh. I love Yuvi. I think his spirit, his rawness. As you see the person, as you see his experience there is no holds barred. It's precious,” she added.
