‘I don’t sledge someone upfront, it’s not my habit' - Naveen-ul-Haq breaks silence days after verbal spat with Virat Kohli
Naveen-ul-Haq and Kohli had a verbal spat during an IPL match in Lucknow.
In the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier in the IPL 2023 season, ace pacer Naveen-ul-Haq got engaged in a verbal spat with former RCB skipper Virat Kohli. Sooner than later, Gautam Gambhir too got involved as the teammates of their respective teams had to separate them in the end. The IPL committee too got involved later on as Gambhir and Kohli were fined 100% of their match fees while Naveen was fined 50%.
Days after the incident, the pacer along with Avesh Khan sat for a special show and the video of the same was shared by the official handle of LSG. Naveen revealed that he has never sledged anyone upfront and that it’s not his habit. Nevertheless, he recalled a funny incident that happened in domestic cricket.
“I don’t sledge someone upfront, It’s not my habit. There’s an incident from a first-class game. I was on the non-striker’s end and the batter on strike got sledged. The fielder on the silly point was newly married. He said, ‘It’s the last wicket, let's finish this quickly, I need to go home and finish some work, I just got married yesterday. This was a funny incident that happened,” Naveen recalled.
Notably, the onfield heat between the two carried to social media as well, as both these cricketers posted cryptic stories on Instagram the following day.
LSG and RCB in race to qualify for IPL playoffs
Even though both LSG and RCB are currently out of the top four in the IPL points table, they can qualify for the playoffs if they manage to win their remaining matches in the league stage. RCB will be taking on Rajasthan Royals (May 14), Sunrisers Hyderabad (May 18), and Gujarat Titans (May 21) next while the Lucknow-based franchise will play Sunrisers Hyderabad (May 13), Mumbai Indians (May 16), and Kolkata Knight Riders (May 20).
LSG have 11 points and RCB ten after 11 games and thus, they have a near-equal chance to get into the top four.
