The start of Day 3 of the decisive 5th Test between India and England in Dharamsala brought an unexpected development for the home team.

Captain Rohit Sharma did not take the field after India's batting innings concluded, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) citing a stiff back as the reason for his absence. BCCI posted the news on their social media handle.

India resumed their first innings at an overnight score of 475/7 and were bowled out in the first half an hour of Day 3 for 479. As per cricket laws, if a player misses any time on the field during the opposing team's innings, they are also required to remain off the field for the same duration when their team bats again in that innings. This rule could potentially impact India's batting lineup if Rohit remains unavailable for an extended period.

Vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah took over the on-field leadership duties in Rohit's absence. Indian medical team will be closely monitoring Rohit's health. England is currently batting on 24 for the loss of two wickets in their second innings, Ravichandran Ashwin has picked up both wickets and given the home team an upper hand in the match.
