IND vs NZ Champions Trophy Final: How many catches did India drop? - Watch Video
India were surprisingly sloppy on the field after being made to field first.
There were a total of four opportunities that were dropped by the Indian unit in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 between India and New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 9.
The third delivery of the seventh over saw Mohammed Shami shell a quite straightforward caught-and-bowled chance. Bowling from the right-the-wicket angle, it appeared as if Shami did not expect Rachin Ravindra to present the opportunity to him. His initial stimulus was an attempt to duck away before putting his hand up in a bid to get hold of the ball. The ball hit the end of Shami's left hand, and the physiotherapist was called to attend to the issue immediately.

In the very next over, the southpaw was gifted another lifeline. This time, Shreyas Iyer was the culprit at deep midwicket. Looking to take the mystery spin of Varun Chakravarthy on, Rachin top-edged a slog-sweep towards what was a vacant deep midwicket region. Iyer, originally at deep backward square leg, ran 20-odd metres to his right before lunging out with outstretched hands at the last moment.

Axar Patel would have got his first wicket of the evening had it not been for Rohit Sharma only managing to get fingertips on an attempted pull shot by Daryl Mitchell off the left-armer. The Indian skipper sprung up valiantly but only managed to tip it over the bar for the set batter to add two runs to the total.

Ravindra Jadeja was left bemused with Shubman Gill after the top-order batter spilled a relatively easy chance at deep midwicket. A flat pull by Glenn Phillips off a length delivery on the middle stump was directed towards Gill. Despite being on a dipping trajectory, it seemed as if Gill did not quite make his read the movement of the ball towards him. He just about got his fingers under the ball but could not cling on.

New Zealand ended up with 251/7 after their 50-over quota. Five of the Kiwis' seven wickets came through spinners. Michael Bracewell ended up unbeaten on 53* off 40 deliveries. Jadeja was the most economical bowler for India, ending up with figures of 1/30 in 10 overs.
