IND vs SL: Rohit Sharma dedicates 47th ODI half-century to his late pet dog
Rohit Sharma scored 83 runs before getting out in the first ODI against Sri Lanka.
India and Sri Lanka are currently involved in the first of the three-match ODI series in Guwahati. After being put in to bat first, the hosts got off to a prolific start thanks to their openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Both the batters got to their respective half-centuries but were unfortunate not to reach the three-figure mark. While Gill scored 70 runs, Rohit missed his well-deserved century by 17 runs.
Meanwhile, the India skipper, who made his comeback in this game after sustaining injury in Bangladesh series, was seen looking up and saying something after notching up his 47th ODI half-century. He was dedicating the milestone to his pet dog, a beagle, who passed away on Monday (January 9).
Here's the video:
Rohit Sharma's wife Ritika, had posted pictures of the pet dog and shared the emotional message on her Instagram account. "Yesterday was by far the hardest day of our lives. We said goodbye to the love of our lives. You have been the best furbaby anyone could ever have. My first love, my first baby, the most gentle furball that ever lived. Until we meet again. Our lives will always have a little less Magic in it," Ritika had wrote.
Rohit Sharma missed out on a ton
After getting team India off to a terrific start, Shubman Gill walked back to the pavilion after scoring 70 runs. He was pinned in front of the stumps by Dasun Shanaka. Rohit Sharma, at the other end, looked set to get a big score. But even he couldn't get to a three-figure mark as he played one from Dilshan Madhushanka on to the stumps when on 83.
