India Women bring up classy celebration as they win record 7th Asia Cup title
Team India beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets and 69 balls to spare.
The Women’s Asia Cup 2022 was the eighth edition of the Asia Cup tournament that was played from October 1 to October 15 in Sylhet, Bangladesh. Team India thoroughly dominated and won the final match against Sri Lanka by eight wickets in Sylhet extending their record to seven titles in the Asia Cup 2022.
Smriti Mandhana blazed her way to her first half-century in the tournament, and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur concluded the paltry 66-run chase in the ninth over. The Women in Blue were seemingly hungry to clinch the title and etch their names in history.
On the contrary, Sri Lanka recorded the lowest total in a women's tournament final by a side batting first and playing out the entirety of 20 overs. As Sri Lanka suffered a horrible batting collapse, they found it difficult to put a respectable score and India stormed their way to victory.
India lift their 7th Asia Cup title
Chamari Athapaththu-led Sri Lanka were on the cusp of lifting their maiden title, but their hopes were dashed out by a dominant Indian side. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. showed true character which eventually saw them relish a great campaign in the Asia Cup 2022.
The side celebrated off to a classy style that was shared in a video on social media by the Indian cricket board. In the video, the Women in Blue were seen flaunting their names on the back of their jerseys which was followed by an energetic dance.
The accuracy of the Indian bowlers stood out as the Lankan lions could only manage to score seven runs in the first two overs. Moreover, Renuka Singh bowled an exceptional spell that bamboozled the batters and had bowling figures of 3-1-5-3.
It was a simple task in hand for the side as Sri Lanka caved swiftly due to the wicket fest that India relished. Team India have now won seven of the eight Asia Cup editions that have been played in total.
