India's squad for Hong Kong Sixes 2024 announced, Robin Uthappa to lead

The Hong Kong Sixes is set for a much-awaited comeback as 12 teams are set to entertain fans with some exhilarating action. This is going to be the 20th edition of the high-octane tournament and the matches are set to run from November 1 to 3 at Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok, Hong Kong.

On Saturday, October 12, India announced their seven-member squad for the highly-anticipated tournament. Former India opener Robin Uthappa, who won the T20 World Cup in 2007, has been named as the captain of the side. Stuart Binny and Kedar Jadhav are the two all-rounders in the side, while Shreevats Goswami is expected to don the wicketkeeping gloves. Manoj Tiwary will also chip in with the ball as he can bowl both off-spin as well as leg-spin.

Meanwhile, Shahbaz Nadeem is the only specialist bowler in the team and will have an important role to play with his left-arm orthodox bowling. Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Bharat Chipli is also a part of the side.

When did India last win Hong Kong Sixes?

The Hong Kong Sixes returns after a seven-year hiatus. South Africa are the defending champions of the league. They won the title back in 2017. The Proteas are the joint-most successful team in the competition alongside England as both teams won the coveted title on five occasions each. The first edition of the tournament was held back in 1992.

India won the title for the first time in 2005 as they defeated the West Indies in the final. This was the only time the Asian side won the competition. They have assembled a compact side for the impending edition of the tournament and hope to go the distance by getting the better of the other 11 teams.

The tournament gets underway on November 1 as South Africa cross swords with Hong Kong. A total of 29 matches will be played in the three-day tournament. A Women's Exhibition Match is also set to be played on the final day of the tournament to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
