At the IPL 2023 auction, Chennai Super Kings paid a huge sum to rope in all-rounder Ben Stokes. The English red-ball skipper joined the franchise after being signed for INR 16.25 crore, but the franchise could not get the best out of him and he was sidelined for a majority of the season. Stokes played only two games this season, scoring 15 runs in two innings, and giving away 18 runs in the only over that he bowled.

England will be hosting Ireland for a one-off Test, starting June 1, and will gear up for The Ashes after the conclusion of the Test match. Stokes, who has been in charge of the red-ball team, has returned back home to join his team for their forthcoming national assignments. Stokes will be joining England’s national camp and will lead the team against Ireland.

Chennai Super Kings shared the update on their social media handle and announced that the all-rounder has left for home to serve his national side. Sharing a picture of him in the CSK kit, they wrote:

"Home bound for the national duty! ✈️🇬🇧 We’ll be whistling for you, Stokesy! Until next time! 🫶🏻💛 #WhistlePodu #Yellove 🦁"

Ireland, during their visit to England, will be playing a tour match against Essex starting May 26, which will be followed by the ultimate one-off Test at Lord's. Ireland will return in September 2023 for a three-match ODI series, which will act as a preparatory series ahead of the all-important ODI World Cup scheduled in India, where England will be walking in as the defending champions.

Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, will not feel Stokes’ absence as skipper MS Dhoni has been playing with an unchanged playing combination for the past four games, and the team is unlikely to make any changes going further. Deepak Chahar returned fit when CSK played LSG away and was included in the Playing XI, and since then the team combination has remained the same.

CSK are set to face off against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 at their home ground in Chennai, the MA Chidambaram Stadium, on May 23, Tuesday.
