IPL 2023 Final: Deepak Chahar misses golden chance, drops catches of GT openers Shubman Gill and Wridhiman Saha
Gill was dropped at three during the fourth ball of the second over.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar dropped a sitter which could have drawn curtains on flamboyant Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill during the crucial IPL 2023 Final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
During the fourth ball of the second over, Gill, who was batting with a score of three runs, was up against Tushar Deshpande. The yellow outfit were presented with a golden opportunity as Gill flicked a fullish delivery towards Chahar at square leg.
What followed was Chahar dropping a straightforward catch which could have been a turning point and drawn curtains on Gill’s innings. It is worth mentioning that the flamboyant Titans opener is the leading run-scorer in the IPL 2023, as he has collected 851 runs, featuring four half-centuries and three tons in 16 appearances.
Chahar drops Wriddhiman Saha's catch too
Moments later in the powerplay iof the first innings, Chahar missed yet another opportunity while bowling as he dropped seasoned batter Wriddhiman Saha on the first ball of the fifth over. Chahar bowled a slower ball which was struck back towards the pacer by Saha.
Despite stretching his left-arm to get hold of the ball, Chahar eventually dropped his second of the evening. The pacer has been fairly decent for the yellow outfit with the ball in the 16th edition of the league as he has collected 12 wickets in nine matches, with a decent economy of 8.63.
MS Dhoni and Co. will be gunning to push through and add a record-equalling fifth title. However, the defending champions will pose quite a challenge in order to clinch their second title on the trot.
It is worth mentioning that legendary skipper MS Dhoni made his 250th appearance in the top-tier league against the Titans in the summit clash. In addition to this, he features in his 11th final (10 with CSK and one with Rising Pune Supergiant), the most by any player in the history of the league.
