The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 began in the worst possible way for the 2016 champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad. Led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the first game, Hyderabad took on the IPL 2022 finalists Rajasthan Royals in their first game of the season.

However, their loss could be attributed to the missing of some key players of the team. South African batter Aiden Markram, who missed the first game of the IPL 2023 due to international duty, has made his return as he was seen joining the team’s training camp ahead of their next game.

Markram will be leading Hyderabad in their next game, and the side will hope for his return to bear positive results for them. The franchise took to Twitter as they announced Markram’s return. Apart from Markram, Henrich Klassen and  Marco Jansen have also joined the squad to further bolster their lineup.

Markram will be coming into the tournament on the back of excellent form. In South Africa’s recent game against the Netherlands, Markram played an exceptional knock as he scored 175 runs and was integral to his side’s ODI series win.

Rajasthan Royals handed Sunrisers Hyderabad a hefty loss

In the absence of some key players, Sunrisers Hyderabad took on a fully strengthened Rajasthan Royals lineup. Batting first, the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan wreaked havoc on Hyderabad’s bowling attack. Jos Butter and Yashasvi Jaiswal put up a sensational opening stand, with skipper Sanju Samson following it up with another half-century.

As the hosts came in to bat, they were greeted with a phenomenal first over by Trent Boult, who took wickets to mount early pressure on Hyderabad. The 2016 champions would hope that with the return of stars like Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen, they would be able to improve upon their performances in the forthcoming matches. After losing their first game of the season, Sunrisers Hyderabad will next take on the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants on Friday, April 7.
