In the one-sided encounter between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium, RR set a target of 142 runs for CSK in the first innings. After winning the toss and opting to bat, RR showcased a steady performance, posting a total of 141/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a good start, contributing 24 runs off 21 deliveries before being dismissed by Simarjeet Singh. Jos Buttler, with 21 runs, and captain Sanju Samson, adding 15 runs, also made some contributions but none of them were able to prolong their inning. However, it was Riyan Parag's impressive unbeaten knock of 47 runs off 35 balls that anchored RR's innings. Dhruv Jurel's quickfire 28 off 18 deliveries further bolstered RR's total.

CSK's bowling attack, led by Simarjeet Singh with three wickets, posed a challenge for RR batters. Tushar Deshpande also chipped in with two crucial wickets. Despite some resistance from the RR batters, CSK managed to restrict them to a manageable total.

In response, CSK chased down the target with ease, reaching 145/5 in 18.2 overs. Rachin Ravindra's brisk 27 and Ruturaj Gaikwad's unbeaten 42 anchored CSK's innings. Daryl Mitchell and Shivam Dube also made valuable contributions with 22 and 18 runs respectively. Despite Ravindra Jadeja's dismissal due to obstructing the field, Sameer Rizvi's unbeaten 15 off eight balls guided CSK to victory with ten balls to spare.

Overall, it was a commendable performance by CSK, who showcased their batting prowess and chased down the target comfortably, securing a crucial win in the IPL 2024 to stay alive in the playoff race.

I'm not sure what number was par, it's harder in day games: Samson

After the match, Samson said that the pitch got slower than expected after the powerplay, leading to a shortfall in their target score. He praised Simarjeet's bowling and highlighted the uncertainty surrounding away games.

"Obviously really nice to get over the line on what is a slow wicket. The way the boys bowled up top, put pressure on them and restricted them was great. I'm not sure what number was par, it's harder in day games. It's just working in partnerships. For me when I come in, recognising the new ball is the best time to bat. It's having communication with each other, matchups and knowing who you can take down. Always happy, it's pretty cool to play in front of a crowd like this. Noise like this makes us feel lucky," Samson said during the post-match presentation.
