In a pretty one-sided encounter at Chennai's home ground, hosts Chennai Super Kings (CSK) showcased their all-round prowess against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to secure a convincing victory by 78 runs in the 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Asked to bat first after losing the toss, CSK got off to a poor start with Ajinkya Rahane contributing nine runs before falling early. However, it was skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad who stole the show with a scintillating knock of 98 runs off just 54 deliveries, displaying an array of exquisite shots all around the ground. Supported by Daryl Mitchell's brisk 52, and Shivam Dube's 39, CSK posted a formidable total of 212/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

In response, SRH struggled to build partnerships as wickets fell at regular intervals. Despite Aiden Markram's valiant effort of 32 runs, the rest of the batting order failed to provide substantial contributions. Tushar Deshpande wreaked havoc with the ball, claiming an impressive four-wicket haul and restricting SRH to a meager total of 134 runs in 18.5 overs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad's stellar performance earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award, as he not only shone with the bat but also showcased excellent fielding and captaincy skills. His impactful innings proved to be the cornerstone of CSK's commanding victory.

After the match,  Gaikwad praised the team's clinical win despite tough wet conditions. He aimed for a 220 total, regretted missed hits, and lauded Deshpande and Jadeja's performances. He also acknowledged the importance of seniors' roles in the team.
