IPL 2024: Top 10 Memes from DC vs GT, Match 40
DC beat GT by four runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 24.
Delhi Capitals (DC), who bundled out Gujarat Titans (GT) to a mere 89 in their clash in Ahmedabad, once again displayed their dominance when the two sides locked horns at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 24, outplaying the 2022 champions by four runs.
Interestingly, Rishabh Pant, who claimed the Player of the Match award in their previous encounter, clinched the same once again in this match.
Speaking of the game, GT skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and invited DC to bat first. Delhi, who decided to rest veteran David Warner, introduced a new opening pair of Prithvi Shaw and Jake Fraser-McGurk. However, this change did not come to fruition for Delhi as Sandeep Warrier dismissed Jake and Shaw, respectively in the fourth over. Sandeep struck again in the sixth over to claim his third wicket, dismissing Shai Hope for just five runs.
Despite losing three wickets inside the powerplay, Axar Patel and Pant anchored the innings, with the wicketkeeper-batter unleashing a flurry of boundaries against the GT bowlers. Axar showcased his prowess, scoring a brilliant 66 off 43 deliveries before being dismissed by Noor Ahmed. Tristan Stubbs, who entered the fray when Delhi were at 157/4 at the end of the 17th over, gave the perfect final push to the DC innings alongside Pant. Their crucial partnership propelled the hosts to set an imposing target of 225 runs.

Stubbs smashed a quickfire 26* off seven deliveries while Pant remained unbeaten 88 off 43 deliveries, featuring five boundaries and eight towering sixes. The young wikcteeekper's innings was not only spectacular but also historic as he achieved two significant milestones in the lucrative league. The 26-year-old ascended to the position of Delhi's leading run-scorer, scoring over 3000 runs and becoming the franchise's second-highest player with the most 50-plus scores.
Delhi achieved a significant breakthrough in the second innings when Anrich Nortje sent back Gill in the second over. Kuldeep Yadav then shattered the third-wicket partnership between Wriddhiman Saha and Sai Sudharshan, dismissing the wicketkeeper for 39 runs in the tenth over. However, by that time, GT had established a strong position, reaching 95. Sudarshan, on the other side, continued his power hitting, amassing 65 off just 39 deliveries, including seven fours and two sixes. Meanwhile, David Miller contributed a quickfire 55 off just 23 deliveries.
GT seemed to be in trouble in the last stages, but they managed to reach 206 by the end of the 19th over. Delhi's breath was taken aback when Rashid Khan struck back-to-back boundaries against Mukesh Kumar in the first two deliveries of the final over. However, the momentum shifted when the Indian pacer bowled two dot balls. DC found themselves in trouble again when Rashid went all the way for a maximum in the penultimate delivery. Yet, Mukesh and Delhi had the last laugh as they successfully restrained GT from scoring any runs in the last ball.
