In a thrilling encounter at Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) emerged victorious over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 27 runs in the 68th match of the IPL 2024. Consequently, they advanced into the playoff of the mega event. The win was powered by RCB's formidable batting lineup, setting a daunting target of 219 for CSK.

Losing the toss and asked to bat, RCB posted an impressive 218/5 in their 20 overs. The innings was anchored by skipper Faf du Plessis, who scored a solid 54 off 39 balls, featuring three fours and three sixes. Virat Kohli provided a strong start with a brisk 47 off 29 balls, including three fours and four sixes, before falling to Mitchell Santner. Rajat Patidar's explosive 41 off 23 balls, and Cameron Green’s unbeaten 38 off just 17 balls, further bolstered the total. Glenn Maxwell's cameo of 16 from five balls, at an astonishing strike rate of 320.00, ensured RCB ended their innings on a high note.

CSK's bowlers had a challenging day, with Shardul Thakur conceding 61 runs but taking two wickets. Tushar Deshpande managed a wicket but at the cost of 49 runs from his four overs. Mitchell Santner was the most economical, taking 1/23 from his four overs.

Chasing 219, CSK's innings got off to a disastrous start with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad dismissed for a golden duck. Rachin Ravindra steadied the ship with a fluent 61 off 37 balls, supported by Ajinkya Rahane who scored 33 off 22. However, regular wickets kept CSK under pressure. Ravindra Jadeja’s valiant 42* off 22 balls and a quick 25 off 13 from MS Dhoni kept hopes alive, but they fell short, managing 191/7 in their 20 overs.

To sum up the season, pretty happy with seven games out of 14: Ruturaj Gaikwad

After the game, Ruturaj Gaikwad reflected on the match, noting the pitch was favourable for both batting and spin bowling. He was satisfied with the target they got. Summarizing CSK's season, Gaikwad acknowledged the team's mixed results, winning seven out of 14 games. He highlighted the challenges posed by injuries to key players like Conway and Pathirana, which disrupted the team's balance.

"It was a good wicket. For spinners, it was turning and gripping a little bit. Pretty happy with what the target was. To sum up the season, pretty happy with seven games out of 14. Injuries, not having Conway as well - made a lot of difference. Challenges right from the first game. Pathirana got injured, we missed Fizz as well. When you have injuries, it is difficult to balance the squad... Couldn't get over the line, but these things can happen. For me, personal milestones don't matter a lot. After all, the ultimate prize is to win. We couldn't get it, so personally, I'm slightly disappointed as well," he said during the post-match presentation.
